- Exact vehicle V5C, handbook and VIN or weight plate
- Maximum braked-trailer, gross train, axle and nose-weight limits
- Towbar plate, fitting approval and vehicle compatibility
- Caravan MTPLM, hitch limit and actual loaded weight
- Driving-licence entitlement and current towing rules
- Tyres, loading, payload, condition, speed, weather and driving experience
The 85% guide
The 85% towing ratio is practical guidance, not a legal limit and not a guarantee of stability. A result below 85% is not automatically safe, and a result above it is not automatically illegal.
